Hello !

For those who do not know me personally my name is Jéromine, I am about to turn 21 and study Politics and International Relations in the UK, even though I am originally from France.  If you ended up on this page it’s because I am about to take part in an amazing experience and hope you will be interested in my project and willing to help !

I am about to do my International Citizen Service (ICS) and become a volunteer for Raleigh International. During, 10 weeks this summer I will be part of a team of UK and Nicaraguan volunteers carrying out sustainable development projects in Nicaragua.

Our projects will revolve around natural resources management, water sanitation and health.

ICS is a government funded program whose aim is to achieve positive development outcomes in the world’s poorest communities by empowering the youth. Instilling in young people the drive to become active global citizens is key for international development, as we, represent more than half of the world’s population, and are tomorrow’s decision-makers. ICS is not just about making a positive change abroad, but also about carrying on having a positive impact in our community when we return home.

To show our commitment to the program we have to fundraise at least £800, the money is, on one hand to ensure the sustainability of the ICS Programme and on another to enable Raleigh to train the volunteers (around 4 days in the UK and 4 days in Nicaragua).

If you believe in empowering the next generations to take charge of their future, in working in partnership with developing countries communities and in sustainable projects ensuring communities’ self-reliance, then I hope you will donate for our project ! There is no donation too small, as every penny counts ! I would also be really grateful if you could share this page with your family, friends, colleagues… to reach as many people as possible !

Just giving page

I will regularly add more information on Raleigh’s work, our project and Nicaragua so do not hesitate to explore the website, or even contact me if you have any question or just want to exchange with me !

Thank you for reading this, once again if you can please support Raleigh, if you cannot please share !

Who am I and what are my motivations to volunteer with Raleigh ?

Helping people in need is what drove me to commit to volunteer with Raleigh.

In the past, I have volunteered with charities working toward more social justice (help to refugees, or to families in need), it is to achieve the same aim that I am going to Nicaragua.

There, some women have to walk between 2 to 7 hours a day to have water, children die from simple diahrreas, caused by drinking unsanitary water, while here we waste this natural resource.

Being a part of the improvement of their living conditions and make people aware that we are privileged are my main motivations.

What projects exactly could we conduct in Nicaragua ?

We will mainly focus on water sanitation, natural resource management, health and empowerment of all in the community.

Here are some examples of what has been undertaken in the past:

-In Las Cruces, in November 2014 Raleigh has fixed 2 wells requiring repairs, and in January 2015 restored one which had been out of action for 7 years !

-In La Quinta Raleigh has built a tippy-tap, which in short, is a tap made out of easily acquirable materials in those communities, and betters the hygienic conditions substantially ! (more on that later)
